Reconfiguration track

Kansas Speedway will get a major facelift. It will make the track more attractive and improve its racing conditions. Work is scheduled to start after the Spring 2012 NASCAR race weekend, and it's expected to be completed by the Sprint Cup Hollywood Casino 400 in October. The 1.5-mile track will be repaved and reconfigured. It will also include the construction of a road track in the infield to support Grand-Am Series.

It was built in 2001 and featured constant 15-degree banking on the turns. The track was repaved and a new infield road route were added before the October 2012 event. This led to a change in track geometry, with variable banking available at turns ranging from 17 to 20, and variable banking between 20 and 25 degrees. Some drivers were mixed about the new track's surface. Kyle Busch was not pleased with it. Kyle Busch failed to adapt to the new surface at Kansas Speedway in three consecutive DNFs.
