Daytona Beach has been a favourite venue for land speed record attempts. However, racing events weren't really popularized until the 1930s. Bill France Sr. had just arrived in Miami to make a new start when his car was damaged in Daytona Beach. When he arrived, he settled down and entered his very first beach race. After that, he started to promote the races.

Daytona Beach's history is rich in automotive history. It all started with a friendly wager between gentlemen, who wanted to test their vehicles against one another. These trials were held on "The World's Most Famous Beach" during the early 1900s. The town was made famous by the film "Automobile Races at Ormond," which was released in 1905. Ransom E. O's was Ransom, and he wore a red-and-white striped shirt for his first run on the beach.

Daytona Beach has been a favourite spot for land speed records attempts. But it wasn’t until the 1930s when the idea of hosting an event took root. Bill France Sr. was on his way to Miami when his car broke down at Daytona Beach. Afterwards, he settled in Daytona and entered the first beach race. He was then promoted to the races.

Daytona Beach events were chaotic in their early days. The first race ended up being cancelled after just 75 laps due to overcrowding and degraded sand. Others events were abandoned regularly without paying drivers. NASCAR was born, standardizing the racing system. Daytona Beach opened a new facility for auto racing events in 1951.
